Senior Faculty Member Joins Department in Fall 2009
Dr. David Jacobson will join the Sociology Department this Fall as a Full Professor. A political sociologist, his areas of research include immigration and citizenship, international institutions and law, and gender and human rights. He is one of three senior investigators on a $5.8 million project mapping the diffusion and influence of counter-radical Muslim networks and discourse in Western Europe, West Africa and Southeast Asia. He also co-directs the Global Resolve Initiative, which draws on student teams to help villagers in developing countries develop alternative energy technologies. Born in South Africa, he received his training at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the London School of Economics and Princeton University. His is the author of, among other works, Rights Across Borders: Immigration and the Decline of Citizenship (one of the most highly cited books in the area) and Place and Belonging in America, both published by the Johns Hopkins University Press. He is working on a book on gender, culture and sexuality in contemporary global conflict.
