Bio

Nana Tuntiya is a faculty member in the Department of Sociology and Interdisciplinary Social Sciences with interests in Medical Sociology, Mental Health, and Political Sociology. She has conducted historical research in community mental health and deinstitutionalization and has published her photographic work in Visual Studies and Contexts. Her articles on tolerance, stigmatization, and the history of psychiatry have appeared in Sociological Perspectives, International Journal of Epidemiology, Sociological Inquiry, and Community Mental Health Journal, among others. Her recent work is focused on the role of Medical Humanities in the professional socialization of premedical students.

Dr. Tuntiya grew up in the beautiful city of Odessa on the Black Sea and always welcomes the opportunity to share her global experiences and knowledge of the Eastern European region. Her courses include Sociology of Influence, Social Science Statistics, Medical Sociology, and Introduction to the Social Sciences. Above all, Dr. Tuntiya enjoys working with students and mentoring them through their educational careers. Her teaching received recognition by a Fulbright grant for young faculty (JFDP), and recently she was a recipient of the student-nominated USF Ambassadors Apple Polishing Award (2020), and the College of Arts and Sciences Liberal Arts Teaching Award for 2021-2022.
