Profiles of Current Graduate Students
Marie Beckman is a practicing civil rights attorney in Tampa. Her
interest in pursing an M.A. degree is to study racism.
Kelly Carter graduated with a B.A. degree in Sociology from Eckerd
College in 2006 and, for the last year, has been working at Planned Parenthood.
She is interested in exploring race, class, and gender and other associated power
struggles.
Christina Chekoudjian graduated from Webster University in St.
Louis. Her continuing interest is in social change and women’s issues
in the United States.
Branimir Cvetkovic graduated from the University of Florida in
2005. Born in Yugoslavia, his long term goal is to obtain a Ph.D. degree in
order to work on resolving global issues.
Amy Daniels graduated from University of Central Florida with a
B.A. degree in Sociology. She works as an Admissions Counselor at USF.
Katie Downs graduated from University of Central Florida with a
B.A. degree in Psychology. She is interested in studying how society and cultures
impact adolescent homosexuality, gender identity, and other behaviors associated
with gender.
Jarin Eisenberg graduated from the University of South Florida.
She has interests in community research and how public and social policies affect
people of varying races/ethnicities.
Mychel Estevez received her B.A. degree in Sociology with a double
minor in Women’s Studies and Anthropology from University of Central Florida.
Her continuing interests are in how students feel about feminist beliefs and ideals,
and in stereotypes held by students regarding women in general and feminists in
particular.
Jennifer Feldman received her B.A. in Sociology from the University
of South Florida. Her interests at this time lie in urban life, particularly
in the inequalities found in urban schools, housing, and employment.
Debra Glass obtained her B.A. in Sociology at USF. Because
she loves the challenge of being in college classrooms, she plans to continue her
education and eventually become a professor.
Courtney Glover is writing her thesis on how workers and customers
in an organization offering free lunches to homeless people understand the meaning
of “homelessness.”
Alex Hernandez received his B.A. degree in History and Sociology
from the University of South Florida. He is interested in the exploring the
practical applications of humor in the classroom, as well as how people in the United
States view highly intelligent people and their achievements.
Christopher Howell is working on his thesis which explores the
emotional strains of working in Child Protective Services and the importance of
emotional support for these workers.
Sue Humphrey graduated from USF St. Petersburg with a major in
psychology. She believes that sociology complements psychology because social
forces affect behavior.
Ginger Jacobson received her B. A. degree in 2004 from Connecticut
College with a major in Human Development. She has spent time in Chile researching
school choice and is most interested in relationships between race and ethnicity
and education.
Donald McLawhorn is working on his thesis which examines how Chinese
college students understand “eating disorders.” He collected his
data in Taiwan this past summer.
Pangri Mehta received her B.A. in Sociology and Spanish from Temple
University. She has been involved in interviewing men for the Adolescent Fathers
Involvement Intervention Program and is interested in cultural assimilation and
social problems.
Samantha Schwegmann received her B.A. degree in Sociology from
Eckert College. Her primarily goal is to learn how to conduct sociological research.
Curt Sudduth completed his undergraduate work at the University
of Tampa and the University of South Florida. He is interested in a broad
range of questions surrounding the social construction of health and illness.
Chris Wagenheim received his undergraduate degree in English at
the University of South Florida. His interests are in politics and religion.
